Invoicing and getting paid
- If you're going to survive as a freelancer, you'll need to make money. That means money will have to change hands from the client over to you, and as you can probably guess, it rarely happens through the exchange of actual cash. So how does it happen? Most of the time, it's done through a process called invoicing. An invoice is a written document laying out a list of services provided and the amount due in return for those services. Invoices will also tell the client exactly how to pay the amount owed and when it's due. For a long time, invoices gave an address to mail a check to, or bank account info to wire or deposit what's owed. You can still do that, but now there are other options that make invoicing much easier. And this brings up an important point. In order to get paid quickly and on time, you should make it as easy as possible to pay you.
