Boomerang Cardiff started its journey as a homeless/poverty organisation, helping citizens that live on the streets who still deserve a little dignity, however the journey developed moving in different directions but still keeping its identity with regards to tackling poverty. Boomerang Cardiff has been developed with the community and volunteers, many volunteers are driven by previous lived experience of homelessness, poverty and social isolation. Following a period of falling on hard times and experiencing homelessness as a self-employed businessman, founder Paul Gwilym began to work with the local community, creating and funding the project himself. Overview: Under the umbrella of Boomerang Cardiff, there are now FIVE sections to the project: Homelessness/Prevention of Homelessness Poverty, In work poverty/Critical Living Conditions Community Engagement/Education Social Isolation/Loneliness Health/Physical Wellbeing Boomerang Cardiff focus on the needs of the community from all suburbs of Cardiff and work with the community in a number of ways; as a charitable organisation we work hand in hand with the community to support/prevent homelessness, poverty, critical living conditions and social isolation. We aim to help and support local people and families that are down on their luck, quickly and efficiently, working to promote, benefit and empower the inhabitants of Cardiff without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions in a common effort to enhance living standards. Our aims are simple, to provide help to people who need it and fast.

Today, I want to shed light on the importance of community service and charity, which I believe lie at the heart of our humanity—supporting one another through life's challenges. As socio-economic disparities grow in Pakistan and across the globe, we should all recognize the responsibility we share to make a difference. During my time as President of the NUST Volunteers Club (NVC), I had the privilege of meeting families daily who were struggling in ways many of us could hardly imagine. These experiences reinforced a harsh truth in my mind: if I’m not there for others in their time of need, I should not expect anyone to be there for me. This post is just a reminder to frequently contribute, in any capacity you can. While large organizations like Shaukat Khanum (Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre), Al-Khidmat (Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan), and other established institutions receive substantial international funding, smaller, local NGOs—those embedded in the heart of our communities—are often overlooked. Students in societies like the NUST Volunteers Club are directly engaged with critical cases of urgent need. NGOs such as the Human Care Foundation and Kaar-e-Kamal Welfare Organization have well-established support programs that rely heavily on your donations to make a difference where it’s needed the most. 🌱 Do-Good Mondays: Setting the Tone for a Positive Week 🌞 A couple of weeks ago I celebrated another year around the Sun, and one of the gifts I received was a donation made to Shelter on my behalf. Shelter is a housing and homelessness charity that provides free, confidential advice to people with all kinds of housing problems. They tackle the root causes of the housing crisis by lobbying for new laws and policies, and investment to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people, and work with the housing sector to promote good practice, publish reports, and deliver professional training. While this charity is focusing its work on the UK, the issue they are tirelessly fighting is, unfortunately, common to a lot of countries - probably including the country you are based. So, what good can you do this Monday? 🍀 👉 Here are my three suggestions: 1. Look into local nonprofits in your community working to address homelessness and housing insecurity. Get familiar with their work and support them in any way you can - even if it's just sharing it with your network. 2. Spring cleaning will surely bring out items that you completely forgot about and don't need - donating them to relevant charity shops is better than keeping them forgotten somewhere in your wardrobe! 3.
