First appearance | Super Mario World ("The Wheel Thing") (1991) |
A Cavemobile is a type of car appearing in the Super Mario World television series episode "The Wheel Thing." Its name is a portmanteau of "cave" and "automobile." The Cavemobile consists of a stone slab with four log wheels, a log seat, and a stone slab engine with a wooden steering wheel. The engine also contains a Goomba, which is used to power the car by the driver pressing a stone pedal, which prods the Goomba to run on its front axle, moving the car.
During the episode, after Mario and Luigi show off the wheels to the Cave People of Dome City, they set up a Cavemobile factory in the Dome Castle to produce cars for the Cave People. Mario then shows Princess Toadstool how the factory produces its cars, bragging that the Cave People will have wheels very soon, though the Princess believes that they are moving too fast for the Cave People. Eventually, a major Cavemobile accident, caused by Yoshi nibbling on the stop signs and the Cave People's lack of driving knowledge, results in the Cave People banishing Mario and Luigi to the Lava Pits. The Cave People continue driving the cars until the end of the episode, where Mario and Luigi decide to stave off on introducing wheels to the them for a few thousand years as they cheer for them and Yoshi for helping them defeat the Mega Mechanasaur.
A truck version for the Cavemobile appears when Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi work with the Cave People to defeat the Mega Mechanasaur, which is terrorizing Dome City. Additionally, a car bearing a strong resemblance to a Cavemobile appears in the opening when Yoshi runs from a Cave Person chasing him.
