South Park (1997-2027) creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone flexed their funny bones on the big screen with the sporty comedy BASEketball (1998), not to be confused with the Jim Carroll biopic The Basketball Diaries (1995) starring Leonardo DiCaprio. This raucous romp marks the first and only collaboration between David Zucker, the zany co-writer and director of the hilarious parody Airplane! (1980), and the genius team of Parker and Stone. As such, the movie follows best friends Joseph R. “Coop” Cooper (Parker) and Douglas “Doug” Remer (Stone) as they create a slacker mash-up of basketball and baseball called BASEketball (a feat Zucker actually achieved in real life). Once the new game takes off and becomes the dominant sport in the movie, the script satirizes everything from over-commercialized sports to the fickle world of celebrity. On their rise to fame, we meet Baxter Cain (Robert Vaughn), Grumsky (Mike Schmidt), Jenna Reed (Yasmine Bleeth), and Ted (Ernest Borgnine) and Yvette (Jenny McCarthy) Denslow. The movie also includes Bob Costas, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Reggie Jackson, Robert Stack, and Dian Bachar’s nude booty! As Kenny “Squeak/Little Bitch” Scolari, the skintastic actor bares his behind in a gag designed to freak out another player. Talk about being the butt of a joke! On that note, both Parker and Stone show off their collective buns. If that’s not outrageous enough, they appear topless while wielding comedically oversized peens! Of course, their big dicks are really prosthetic. Suffice it to say, these guys get BASE when sporting their balls. Score!
