More sed-ed than special ed, writer-director John Cameron Mitchell’s follow-up to his cult trans epic Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) is an unrated, uninhibited examination of sexual daredevils exploring the outermost reaches of erotic possibilities. Shortbus (2006) chronicles the underground New York City club of the title, where clothes come off and bodies get close—regardless of size, shape, gender, or any other restrictions. Sook-Yin Lee plays Sofia Lin, a couples therapist who has never experienced an orgasm, which is a tough look for her husband Rob (Raphael Barker). Dealing with her patients ignites a quest to achieve her own climax, inevitably leading her to the omnisexual happenings at the club called Shortbus. Soon enough she's hanging out with drag queens and dominatrixes, all in search of a way to experience her fist big O! What Sofia Lin finds at Shortbus will prompt viewers to achieve their own happy endings as well, since Shortbus isn’t short on nudity. Raphael Barker, Jay Brannan, Paul Dawson, PJ DeBoy and Adam Hardman all flash full-frontal in crazy and intense scenes of one hundred percent unsimulated fornication. Whether they're railing their girlfriends, getting their ass eaten out by a sexy dude, or getting whipped by a kinky pin up girl, it's all legit doing it! But if Mr. Man had to choose one dude to take into the bus bathroom, it’s Dawson that steals the show by going solo. Paul gets himself in an awkward yoga position for a self-blow that should have him patting himself on the back for creating such a sexy scene.
