The Mopes is a high concept German series that brings depression to life as a living, breathing woman who follows people around. Mat (Roel Dirven) is a musician who is experiencing success for the first time in his professional life. What's more, he's also managed to maintain his first serious relationship for an extended period of time, so much so that he's actually taking the plunge and moving in with his girlfriend Anna-Belle (Jennifer Ulrich). However, on his first night in Anna-Belle's place his depression resurfaces, quite literally, when Monika (Nora Tschirner) shows up in bed and begins to whisper to him that he's worthless, his music is terrible, he was wrong to sign a contract with a record label, and he made a huge mistake moving in with Anna-Belle. Monika then begins following Mat around as the literal embodiment of his depression, causing him to once more begin questioning whether he's actually deserving of the happiness he's finally begun to earn. Although it may sound like an equally depressing series, it actually deals with all of this in a light hearted and comedic way, as if to let everyone know that depression is a pretty universal thing that can be overcome with the proper treatment. You'll also want to check out the series for the many hot shirtless scenes from leading man Roel Dirven! He performs on stage with his band sans shirt, walks around his apartment in his underwear, and even visits a doctor for a pantsless exam—though clever blocking keeps us from seeing his junk. In fact, the only depressing thing about The Mopes is the total lack of male nudity!
