VIA Rail was ranked among Canada's best employers in 2025 and they're hiring in Vancouver
The best employers in Canada for 2025 were revealed in a new ranking, and VIA Rail made the cut. The railway company is hiring in Vancouver right now, so if you're looking for a new gig you might be in luck.
Forbes released the list of 2025 Canada's Best Employers, putting the spotlight on companies ranging from tech powerhouses to transportation businesses. VIA Rail was included in the ranking, which listed 300 companies.
To create the ranking over 40,000 Canada-based employees were surveyed and asked to rate their employer. Google came out on top taking first place, with Microsoft in second.
VIA Rail was further down, at 120th place on the ranking, but still managed to land a spot among the best in Canada — and they're hiring for multiple positions in Vancouver right now.
Chef
Salary: $30.33 - $35.57 per hour
Who Should Apply: VIA Rail is looking to fill three chef-cook positions in Vancouver, to work on board the train. The job is based out of Vancouver but will make the journey to Winnipeg while you're working.
If you landed this role you would be responsible for planning the food prep and cooking on board, and managing the kitchen. It's a seasonal position from March to October, and you'll need to be available to work on weekends and holidays. You might also have to be away from home for 4-5 days at a time.
On train service attendant
Salary: $27.45 per hour
Who Should Apply: VIA Rail is hiring for 10 positions in this role!
You will be working on board the train, providing customer service to passengers throughout the trip. That means helping with luggage, serving food, and other tasks. This job will take you on the Vancouver to Winnipeg route, requiring you to be gone for up to 5-6 days at a time. This is a permanent seasonal position, set to start on March 17.
Diesel engine mechanic
Salary: $$ 35.22 - $42.49 per hour
Who Should Apply: This job is responsible for doing preventive maintenance and repairs on locomotive and rolling stock. It's a permanent role with 40 hours of work a week guaranteed, but the work schedule may vary.
You get full benefits with this job, including dental, a ride pass, and personal days. To qualify you'll need a vocational diploma in heavy-duty mechanics, diesel mechanics, or automotive mechanics.
