Van Halen’s Mighty Debut Is Four Decades Old (1978-2018)

Though today is a gloomy and rainy day here in my NYC Metropolis, the power of music shines as radiant as the blazing sun as we raise a glass to the mighty Van Halen and their self-titled debut album which celebrates its fortieth anniversary today. Speaking frankly, “Van Halen I” as many are apt to refer to it is a “Milestone Among Milestones” and since all the hard scoop about it is already documented on its Official Wikipedia entry (linked below), I’ll be sticking to the more personal reflections on how this album hit me as a then very young music fan. Now, as I scroll back through the sands of time to my own first go-round about the album, I must admit that I couldn’t recall hearing it when it was first released in 1978 and think that it was probably closer towards the end of the Summer of 1979. I had already been enjoying the melodies of David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Renaissance and KISS with the four masked men being my own discovery some years earlier. My folks listened to the other stuff I mentioned, and I remain very happy about their musical offerings to me.

I first learned about the existence of Van Halen on the streets of Brooklyn and while that might sound tougher than it is, its just reflecting on the times when teens spent time together outside. There weren’t home video games like there are today and while Atari had its “Pong” and I think another game, no one I knew owned a console, so you did other stuff. One of the girls in my circle of the day pulled out this sleek looking record with the cool cover and awesome logo and asked if we had heard them yet. We hadn’t, and she let us hear the track that was playing on some radio stations which was “You Really Got Me” (the bands take on the classic by The Kinks) and I have to admit that I was hooked straightaway. We also got a good listen to the guitar skills of Edward Van Halen on the “Eruption” track and I remember friends who dabbled with guitar at the time looking dumbfounded. The stuff Eddie was doing during this solo seemed like from another dimension of sound. Let’s look at the full-on album tracks before continuing.

Check The 2nd Trailer: “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” (2016)

Just a little while ago the Jimmy Kimmel show aired the 2nd Official Trailer for the 2016 upcoming film “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and I scrambled to cull this together for you fine readers to enjoy as well. Feast your eyes and then we can discuss a little bit.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Alright now we are getting somewhere because there were moments in this one that made me say “wow, that was awesome” and I will admit that this was not happening all that much for this film. This was a good move by Warner Brothers in giving fans a better and more exciting trailer after the incredible reaction that last weeks “Captain America: Civil War” trailer received. That films clip was viewed 61 million times already and if you have not yet seen it please be sure to do that because it looks like this is going to be a fantastic film for Marvel Studio. Now back to the main topic here on “BvSDoJ”; I really liked this one but did feel perhaps that big reveal at the end could have been left to the imagination and our time in the cinema. There was a lot of speculation about whether we would see Doomsday or not and we surely will even though his origins are not the same as we have come to know. If it works for the film and propels the storyline forward in a solid fashion I will deal with it. I can say that I do hate the way Eisenberg is playing Luthor as he just seems stupid obnoxious with a heavy emphasis on stupid but what do you readers think about the whole thing? Let me know in the comments. I liked it and am more interested in the film than I had been and that’s a good thing since I so want to see the DC Cinematic Universe be something memorable as opposed to not. Now I am wondering how fast this trailer will reach 61 million views. Talk about web traffic. That sounds glorious to have 🙂

Comic-Con First Look: “Suicide Squad” (2016)

Logo - Suicide Squad Film

Thanks to the 2015 San Diego Comic Con (or The SDCC or Comic Con International what have you), I have been doing my damnedest to make sure you fine readers see a number of the most important trailer reveals and believe me there have been some good ones. We first got the better look into the 2016 hopeful blockbuster “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and I will say that I liked it far much more than the first look we got about a month ago. I now have a little more faith in the film which I will say I did not have all that much at first. Now its time to see what “Suicide Squad” is all about. Maximize your screen and enjoy….

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Hmmm. Hmmm. This does look good and yes I remember that I lamented all about the villains coming into the forefront before we know more of the DC Cinematic Universes heroes and I still maintain this stance. That said I will say that this really looks interesting and should be something that generates excitement in the other upcoming films from the DC Comics side. I am not all that crazy about what they did with The Joker but that is because I wanted to find a return to the more classic style of his look. Oh well, I am not in charge of character design here. What did you readers think of this particular trailer? Let me know in the comments section below because I want to hear from you.

Warner Brothers Pictures Locks In Dates For Upcoming Films

So I want to apologize for being a few days late with this news but yeah the big scoop is that Warner Brothers Pictures has locked nine dates that will continue what they are going to be presenting in the 2016 film “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice”. That film was originally supposed to be released in May of 2016 but they moved it up a couple of months to March which many are saying was to avoid competing with Marvel Studios release of “Captain America 3”.

As you already know, “Batman v. Superman” stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill and will essentially be the second film in their own cinematic universe. If one can trust these dates and their mystery films, it looks like we will be getting two new DC superhero films a year all the way up until 2020 which is pretty cool. If Marvel Studios keeps putting out two to three films a year then there has never been a better time to be a geek. Below are the newly announced dates for the as yet undisclosed films that will occupy the slots.

Aug. 8, 2016: Undisclosed Film
June 23, 2017: Undisclosed Film
Nov. 17, 2017: Undisclosed Film
March 23, 2018: Undisclosed Film
July 27, 2018: Undisclosed Film
April 5, 2019: Undisclosed Film
June 14, 2019: Undisclosed Film
April 3, 2020: Undisclosed Film
June 19, 2020: Undisclosed Film

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’m sorry but I am laughing over here because as much as the news about the possibility of nine more superhero films is coming to some sort of launching point is awesome, it seems kind of ridiculous to make a big deal out of dates alone with no idea about a film. Maybe it comes from the immediate success that Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” seems to be finding. That film opened up just over a week ago and people are raving about it. I have not yet seen it but its my plan over the coming days for sure since I don’t want to risk any spoilers about it. Of course this film follows the earlier in the year release of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” which was incredible. Warner really has to step up their game with these films because Marvel is already riding high on entertaining us with this stuff. Hopefully we shall see a trailer for this “BvS” film soon enough. So let’s be hopeful for what will fill all of these slows. I will assume that there are single films focused on various Justice League members. What films do you hope that Warner Brothers Pictures offers up with these heroes? Let me know in the comments below.
