Since I was a little girl, I admired the way South American indigenous (mainly females) wore the bowler hat with their colorful and embroidered dresses. Many years ago, a history teacher told me that the English railway workers in Bolivia were the ones that actually introduced the hat to the indigenous in early 1900's (Wikipedia also agrees).
