I’ve been growing and dyeing with a few different varieties of coreopsis for the last 3 years but this was the first summer where I had an abundance of flowers, and time to experiment with immersion dyeing and eco-printing with them. Permaculture Dye Garden Spiral

Who says that herb spirals need to be for culinary or medicinal use? Why not plant a permaculture-inspired dye garden in a spiral layout? In this Botanical Dyer's Garden plan, we have Hopi Red Dye Amaranth as the centerpiece, surrounded by Hopi Black Dye Sunflower and Safflower. On the outskirts, hawaiian marigold, indigo, dyer's coreopsis, corn poppy, and bachelor's button provide a range of plant-based color!

The key is being able to match the dye constituents within the plant to the proper mordants. Many plants contain multiple phytochemicals and can create a variety of prints depending on the pretreatment that is used.
