The freeze response is hallmarked by a tonic immobility, a frenzy inside with an overall feeling of being stuck with one foot on the gas and one foot on the break. Shut down is our state of immobility and is characterized by disconnection - from others and ourselves. The urgency to move forward is not there, but rather a hopelessness and lack of motivation is present. 

Reminders when our body when experiencing freeze:

- freeze needs time and space to thaw - allow the freeze time be there 
- taking small tolerable steps towards the things we have urgency around is more tolerable 
- gentle, easy movement can offer gentle support for organic regulation
