In the South side of Norridgewock, the best known of the hotels was the Sawyer House and Livery Stable located on Maine Street between Mechanic and Hotel Streets. As of 1845, when Norridgewock was the shire town of Somerset County (1807-1872) the town had three clergymen, four counselors at law, and three practicing physicians.
