President-elect Donald Trump is expected to pick Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) — a one-time primary foe whom he once called "little Marco" — as his secretary of state, The New York Times reported, citing three people familiar with his thinking.
The Times noted that Trump appeared Monday to have landed on Rubio for the position, but could still change his mind.
The move comes as Trump fills out his national security team, including selecting fellow Florida Republican Rep. Mike Waltz as national security adviser. Additionally, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was tapped to become ambassador to the United Nations.

Rubio's relationship with Trump has evolved significantly over the years. The two were fierce rivals in the 2016 primary, though Rubio has since become a potential ally.
During the 2016 Republican primary, Rubio and Trump traded barbs, with Rubio calling Trump a "con artist" and Trump dubbing Rubio "little Marco."
Since then, Rubio has been an outspoken supporter of Trump, and was reportedly in contention to become his vice presidential pick.
