Piece By Piece (2024) Beatrine Shahzad Though certainly a strange addition to the LEGO Animation universe, it somehow makes perfect sense. If you’re intrigued by the premise of a documentary told through LEGO or a fan of Pharrell Williams, Piece by Piece is definitely worth the time.

Speak No Evil (2024) Ernesto Valenzuela The critical changes to the original Danish film aren't a detriment to this Hollywood remake. Quite the contrary, 2024's Speak No Evil is a refreshing and bold retelling that is more than a worthy companion to the original film.

We Live in Time (2024) Tyler Taing Though it never achieves greatness, We Live in Time has the benefit of being the kind of romantic drama that certain audiences have been starved of for so long. Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh certainly deliver on that front.

The Brutalist (2024) Yasmine Kandil The Brutalist truly feels like a monumental moment in modern cinematic history that demands to be seen. Moreover, this gripping historical epic could very well mark the birth of a new auteur in filmmaker Brady Corbet.

Joker: Folie à Deux (2024) Ben Rolph Despite how controversial the musical elements could be and how less “thrilling” it is compared to 2019’s Joker, it’s better that the filmmakers chose to take a creative swing rather than be safe. Joker: Folie a Deux is an entirely unique anti-hero film.

Lisa Frankenstein (2024) Andrew J. Salazar Lisa Frankenstein is a colorful new entry in the “Good For Her” canon of horror films. It’s got the marks of an inspired director and a script that refuses to conform. Whatever small hiccups that are present can easily be forgiven because of this.

Madame Web (2024) Andrew J. Salazar Madame Web is destined for endless memes and the “so bad it’s good” treatment. People tried to do the same with Morbius, yet in this case, we have a movie that you can tell had a unique vision at first but was stumped by Sony’s usual studio antics.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) Andrew J. Salazar Here we have a kaiju film that is so confident and unashamed of its ambitions that even the fans who don’t prefer this style can at least say, “It’s not for me, but I can respect it.”

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) Andrew J. Salazar Despite a few hiccups, director Wes Ball successfully takes the Planet of the Apes franchise in a direction that’s filled with untapped potential. MaXXXine (2024) Andrew J. Salazar When so many modern horror films often find themselves afraid of pushing barriers to avoid being labeled as exploitative, either with violence or subject matter, MaXXXine proves that you can do so in a way that brings out something valuable in the genre.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) Andrew J. Salazar George Miller defies all expectations with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a prequel that cements itself as a crucial piece of the Mad Max mythos. It’s hard to think of another modern prequel that significantly compliments its predecessor like this one does.

The Apprentice (2024) Yasmine Kandil What the audience is left with is a serviceable cautionary tale that doesn’t reach the heights of other, more daring biopics. In truth, Sebastian Stan & the rest of the ensemble’s engrossing performances are the only reasons worth watching The Apprentice.

Anora (2024) Yasmine Kandil A rambunctious ride where the highest highs and lowest lows can be felt on a visceral level. The real cherry on top of Anora‘s brilliance, though, is birthing a true movie star in the impeccable Mikey Madison.

V/H/S/85 (2023) James Preston Poole As a combination of short films, V/H/S/85 goes down fine. That’s all. A couple of them are great examples of the anthology format, one is so well done you wish there was more, and another feels like it outright didn’t understand the assignment.
