Meandering and insubstantial, Aloha finds writer-director Cameron Crowe at his most sentimental and least compelling.

Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine Half the time while watching Aloha, I had no clue what was going on. Not so much the plot -- although I was admittedly a bit muddled on that, too -- but why anyone acted the way they did. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 10, 2016 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire It seems less that Crowe's gifts have escaped him than that they've become disproportionate with his excesses, and we're less forgiving of those trespasses. May 28, 2016 Full Review Lenika Cruz The Atlantic The whole story is a tangled mess. Aloha sees itself as a quirky, funny, and sad, but loudly announces when it's trying to be those things. Jan 21, 2016 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine Aloha attempts to resolve two complex potential romances while simultaneously sounding the alarm against the military-industrial complex (!) and contemplating the ongoing marginalization of native Hawaiians. Jan 23, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Many of the actors remain so charming that watching them, even in a film as slapdash as this, makes the entire experience better than it really is. But that doesn’t mean Aloha should be considered passable. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 21, 2022 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse A sweet natured misfire, a movie that, to once again paraphrase Crowe, does not show us the money. Rated: 2/5 Feb 3, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Hunter F My wife and I kept asking each other what was going on. By the end of the movie I wished I was the satellite. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Ron R Vadim Rizov has it right. For me, as a long time student of Hawaiian people and their spiritual heritage, it is terribly sad but anticipated that the keepers of the world of film culture do not see nor appreciate what is so strongly felt in this quirky drama of heart and spirit. So unusual to see the current holders of the Hawaiian Islands' historic spirit. The true spirit of Aloha peeks through consistently, not as some touristed artifact for the entertaining of the world, but as the real spiritual heritage of its people. They now esconce themselves at the top of a mountain, hidden away with their music and traditions. The sky speaks to them. They know the truth beyond words. The protagonists of this story go through several revealing unveilings of their own, hidden in the quiet secrets of their lives. Finally, the horror of the power of concentration of money in our modern world is revealed, and perhaps unrealistically, through the courage of love is defeated. For now. It's why we don't need the billionaire class. It's destruction of the value of life inherent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review jim t Is anything more lame than a Rom Com that tries to be macho? That said, a certain lameness is an essential requisite of the genre along with cliches and a good meet cute. The meet cute actually spans the entire movie and is a huge redeeming feature. As a movie I rate it 3.5. To the true Rom Com aficionado it's a 5. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/24 Full Review New S I’ve always been on the fence about Bradley Cooper but he is great in this movie. Emma stone is fantastic, she absolutely shines making the character of Captain Ng truly unique. So often we see actors move across the screen and play the part bringing little or nothing to the character. Stone makes this quirky, idealistic, likable character jump off the screen. I loved seeing John Krazinski in this out of character role. The movie got better as it went along and finishes well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Ryan B WTH did I just waste two hours of my life on?? With so many A list actors, I thought it would be great. I just got done watching the movie and stil can't really tell you what it was about. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Rohit B This movie was so bad i repressed any memory of it.
