What to Know

Critics Consensus

Playing Jack Frost as an evil cross between Liza Minnelli and Liberace, Martin Short is a welcome presence, but this tired series continues drawing from its bag of bland gags and dumb slapstick.

Globe and Mail Rated: 2/4 Jun 4, 2008 Full Review Stephen Garrett Time Out Frost turns the occasion into a swag-saturated consumer orgy, which the film condemns even as it hams up product placement for Red Bull. Rated: 1/6 Feb 3, 2007 Full Review Angie Errigo Empire Magazine A little muddled and derivative but what do we expect, really? Rated: 2/5 Nov 30, 2006 Full Review Joel Siegel Good Morning America I'm not going to be the movie critic who gives Santa Claus a bad review. Not me. It's not up to the first two, but it's fine for kids, and Short is terrific. Rated: C+ Jan 5, 2018 Full Review Jane Boursaw Common Sense Media Magical (if mindless) family holiday fun. Koi P The magic of Santa Clause 1 and 2 dissipates in Santa Clause 3. Not enjoyable. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Dale R Business is good in the North Pole as Santa, played again by TIm Allen, decides to invite the in-laws and his family over for Christmas. But Jack Frost, played by Martin Short, is jealous and wants to be Santa himself. The story for this film is more straightforward than the second in the series, however the writing (or directing) doesn’t allow the two comedic leads to really get any laughs. The outtakes before the credits got more laughs out of me. When practical effects are used the special effects are well done, but some of the computer graphics are questionable. There is some enjoyment here if you liked the previous installments of the franchise. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Arianna B If the first movie was superbly hilarious and warming the heart preparing for the Christmas festivities, the second one tried to keep up with not trivialities and still humour and warmth. The third movie feels like a poor attempt of catching the wave of the previous two movies, lacking the spark and ending up on a slow moving ploth, with not too much depth or originality. Still, one liked the characters in the first two movies and the sympathy keeps existing also in this one. It is more that the story feels like cemetified in some mud. Pity, as one could try to keep it up even if this is the third movie, but not exactly unexpected when one thinks of the quality of the sequels... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Audience Member If the second film had too much, the third had too little Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Brian R It is decently good and I got a bit of entertained from it but it didn't really had the same good energy as the first and second movie but it wasn't a bad and terrible movie to watch, The characters were fine, there was 2 scenes that were reused and Jack Frost was a decent villian but not a terrible one, decent movie to watch and not really all that bad Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review matthias s "Welcome to the frosty misadventures in 'The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause' where ice-cool Jack Frost, played with wicked charm by the incomparable Martin Short, steals the snowshow! This third installment may not match the rib-tickling hilarity of its predecessors, but it's a merry sleigh ride nonetheless. Tim Allen as Santa Claus is reliably good, but it's Short's magnetic portrayal of the mischievous Jack Frost that steals the North Pole spotlight. The flick may lack a complex plot, but who needs it when you have Frost's gleefully evil antics? This Christmas caper's magic lies in its festive spirit versus commercialism undertones, sprinkled with enough holiday cheer to warm the heart. While not the crown jewel of the trilogy, it's a jolly addition, perfect for a cozy movie night. With decent effects, a touch of laughter, and a sprinkle of Christmas charm, 'The Santa Clause 3' rings in the season with a ho-ho-ho and a touch of mischief."
