Amy Nicholson New York Times Corny, yes. But charming, too, like when a nurse delivers a mini-monologue of reasons Artie’s too ill to travel that plays out like a clown car of ailments. Nov 8, 2024 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com Despite Brosnan's best efforts, this is a movie with its heart in the right place and its head somewhere substantially other. Rated: 2/4 Nov 8, 2024 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast Brosnan’s Biden-like makeup is a minor distraction from the lackadaisical senior-citizen-on-an-adventure first half, but when solemnity makes an appearance it is often marred by writing that can’t match the emotions of these veterans. Rated: 2/4 Nov 10, 2024 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Interestingly, it eschews the use of drab colour filters to let us know when we’re witnessing flashbacks to the conflict. These are obvious enough, and the fact that they take place in bright sunlight makes them much more visibly a part of the real world. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 8, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller FandomWire The Last Riflman is the type of film that they don’t make anymore and need to bring back to the theater. Rated: 7/10 Nov 8, 2024 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Artie’s story is moving, although the film undermines it with a generic road-trip structure that too often loses sight of its destination. Les N Reminded me of my father. A bit. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review David Y I just loved it, the honesty of being terrified in the war situation and the comradeship and love for your mates, Best performance I have seen by BROSNAN, I shed a tear at the ending when he was honoured by the pipers, regiment and his family. Just feel good movie that ALL young people should watch to make them aware of the sacrifices made by their forefathers.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Sabrina B The movie is well written. The scenario is very good. The actor Pierce Brosnan is perfect. Love it so much. Great movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Millie W They set in Ireland instead of England low budget dodgy acting would not have liked to have paid at the cinema to watch but ok for free on t.v Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Tanvir A Incredibly moving depiction of heartbreak and loyalty through the eyes of Artie. Brosnan delivers a cinematic tour de force which hits all the right notes. The supporting cast all leave a lasting impression for their short screen time especially Jurgen Pronchnow with the infamous Das Boot reference thrown in for good measure A story of love, sacrifice and compromise paced very well. The veteran who wants to say goodbye to his friend and comrade one last time will rest in the hearts of all who watch this gem. Keep your hanky ready, you'll need it for this ride Don't look for the imperfections, we've become used to that cynicism in our daily lives. Enjoy this with your loved ones. The bagpipe finale is a beautiful celebration of a great life that's coming to an end as all things must come to pass…….thank God for the magic of cinema and the rich tapestry of emotions captured Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Wayne K The Last Rifleman is a shameless heartstring tugger, a story tailormade to extract every last tear from its audience. It's for this reason that I didn't feel too strongly about it, since it was so frequently and obviously trying to make me feel emotional that I almost subconsciously rebelled against the idea. That's not to say it's a bad film, just a fairly rote and predictable one. The main thing to recommend it is Pierce Brosnan's performance. Not only does he believably talk like a 90+ year old man, he also moves like one. One of the most glaring problems with Martin's Scorsese's The Irishman is that a de-aged DeNiro looked like a young man, but his kicks and punches didn't reflect this. Here, Brosnan stands, walks, talks, sits down and even thinks like someone at the tail end of their existence, and it means you buys into his character much more. It's an enjoyable enough story, but it doesn't say anything about war, PTSD or sacrifice that other films haven't said already. It plays things so safe as to be largely redundant, but I can't deny that it has a very affable charm. If that's the kind of thing you're after, by all means give it a watch.
