OUT OF MY MIND
Advent is a spiritual season of preparation before Christmas celebrated by many Christians. In Western Christianity, the season of Advent begins on the fourth Sunday prior to Christmas Day, or the Sunday which falls closest to November 30, and lasts through Christmas Eve, or December 24. Advent is a period of spiritual preparation in which many Christians make themselves ready for the coming, or birth of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Celebrating Advent typically involves a season of prayer, fasting and repentance, followed by anticipation, hope and joy.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

Many Christians celebrate Advent not only by thanking God for Christ's first coming to Earth as a baby, but also for his presence among us today through the Holy Spirit, and in preparation and anticipation of his final coming at the end of time.

CHRISTMAS PRESENT
It was the day after Christmas at a church in San Francisco. The pastor of the church was looking over the cradle when he noticed that the baby Jesus was missing from among the figures. Immediately he turned and went outside and saw a little boy with a red wagon, and in the wagon was the figure of the little infant, Jesus. So he walked up to the boy and said, Well, where did you get him, my fine friend? The little boy replied, I got him from the church. And why did you take him? The boy said, Well, about a week before Christmas I prayed to the little Lord Jesus and I told him if he would bring me a red wagon for Christmas I would give him a ride around the block in it.

Over 400 members of our community enjoyed this years Thanksgiving Dinner! Thanks be to God!

Our vows ask us to faithfully participate in the life of the church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness. We hope you will be a part of the ministry of the First United Methodist Church. If you would like to become a member, please give us: Name(s), address, phone number, e-mail address, anniversaries, birthdays and if you are already a member of some other church or not. If you are, we also need the name of the church and, if possible, the address. Please give this to the pastor, or leave in the church office.
