The Discipline of Emergency Medicine at the University of Western Australia is pleased to offer the postgraduate degree of a Masters in Emergency Medicine (MEM) commencing in 2006. The Masters in Emergency Medicine is a broad-based degree for candidates wishing to pursue an academic career in medicine focussed on emergency medicine. The Masters in Emergency Medicine can be undertaken by Thesis and Coursework or Thesis only and is currently HECS exempt. Study can be undertaken in either full or part-time mode and commence anytime during the academic year. The admission requirements are: (a) the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of this University, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty (b) completion or current undergoing of specialist training in emergency medicine leading to fellowship from an appropriate college as recognised by the Faculty (this includes Fellowship in all International Federation for Emergency Medicine countries). The Masters in Emergency Medicine (Thesis and Coursework) requires completion of at least one unit from Clinical Teaching (offered by the Discipline of Emergency Medicine) or the Population Health units of Biostatistics I, II and Clinical Epidemiology. The range of research topics for the up to 25,000 word Thesis component is very wide, from large-scale epidemiological studies to animal, laboratory, toxicological or clinical studies. Supervisors of the Masters theses will be senior academics from the discipline of Emergency Medicine.
