March 2009 Technology Offerings

Video Tutorials
( Note the titles below are not active links) The tutorials are anywhere from 1
minute to 5 minutes in length. They work best when you watch one and then
immediately try what you have learned :) Please do the tutorials on one of
the newer Imac computers in the district.
Class/Demo Descriptions:
TRT ( Technology Resource teacher)
These sessions will be approximately one hour in length. This will allow for
travel time to your next location.

Description: The NCCS Internet Mail service will be covered.
Concentration will be on creating distribution list, calendars and folders.

Class Title: Basic Wikis


Location:Latham Ridge Computer lab

Description: Wiki spaces have many uses. They can be used as a class
website or a site for student collaboration. Learn and actual set-up your
wiki space. Creating links, inserting images and other advanced topics
will be covered.

Description: Learn about this amazing software tool and how it can be
used in the classroom.

Class Title: Cognitive Mapping Software


Location: Loudonville Computer lab

Instructor: Keiran Ryan TRT
Description: Learn about Inspiration and Webspiration software. With this
you can create cognitive maps for writing, create links for research and
even use this software for story boarding. Webspiration is a new Beta
product that allows for online collaboration.

Description: You may know about Powerpoint and its basics but learn
more about the wonderful online tools available for doing presentations.
Renata will cover Google Docs presentation and 280 SLIDES. She may
even throw in a little Keynote

Description: We have all saved an image from the internet or our digital
camera. Now what do you do with those images. Laura will do the basics
of Photoshop elements and teach you how to do slide shows using
"slides", Iphoto and Keynote

Description:Ed will focus on science. He will show the use of his website and
pbwiki to do the lab reports (word processing incorporating graphics and
spreadsheets) for the plant unit as an alternative to using the computer lab . He will
also use Smart Notebook presentation s(notes, activities, presentation, links,
imbedded Appleworks documents) , the online database, spread sheets, and use the
ELMO for the electromagnetism unit.

curriculum and classroom.

Class Title: Creating Online Quizzes

Description: many of us have web or wiki spaces for our class. Did you
know you could create quizzes and have your students take them online?
Learn how to create them using Google Docs, Moodle and ProProofs quiz
site

Description: Learn about the newest interactive Gizmos for Science and
Mathematics for the elementary level. These gizmos allow you to explore
and ask the "what if" questions for all types of concepts. You will develop
your own class of wikis for students to explore both at home and school.

Description: Bring your questions and imagination. Lindsay will cover the
advanced topics of Microsoft word. Topics covered will be tables, images.
columns and mail merge.

Class Title: Project Architects


Location: Elementary Classrooms and anywhere else
Time: This will be your only afternoon session
Instructor: grade level teachers TRT
Description: Teachers are to share projects and then develop a way to
integrate the new web 2.0 tools as well as software suite into lab
activities. All projects will be posted by the teachers by the end of the
workshop day and available for all to share.

Class Title: BookShare Webinr


Location: Blue Creek Faculty/Staff Room
Time: Session 1 (1:00-2:00)
Instructor: OPEN TO SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS, SPEECH THERAPISTS AND
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS ONLYTRT
Description: Bookshare provides accessible books and periodicals for readers with
qualifying print disabilities (with an IEP or 504). Students are able to
listen to textbooks and read along on a computer. This webinar sponsored by
Bookshare will explain the process of registering your students and
obtaining the books for them.
These classes are created and hosted our own Moodle Server. The classes
should take between 2-3 hours of time depending on your current technology
skills. You will be given instructions on how to join the class once registration is
complete. The classes may be done an any computer
in the district

Description: We have all heard about it, now learn how to set-up an
account and use it to create online word. excel and powerpoint
documents. You will also learn how to share these documents with
others.

Description: The keyword here is EMBED. Learn how to embed
powerpoints, forms, quizzes, google gadgets and movies to your wiki site

the Web 2.0 collaboration Tools available now for students and teachers.
