To understand the refraction of light 2 big Beaker,2 small beaker, water, vegetable oil 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Pour vegetable oil into small beaker until full. Slowly insert put the small beaker into the big beaker. Observed if the small beaker can be seen or not. Repeat procedure 1 to 2. Pour vegetable into the big beaker until full. Observed what will happen and will the small beaker been seen.

Result Conclusion Photo

Small beaker with vegetable oil in a big beaker can be seen. However small beaker inside big beaker with vegetable oil cannot be seen (disappear as the vegetable oil filled into the big beaker until full) The index of refraction of the beaker is virtually the same as that of vegetable oil and they make the light bend by the same amount so there is no "boundary" between the beaker and oil.
