VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE
Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation- Country Estates, Agawam, MA Spring, 2014 Level 1 Fieldwork Completed Level I field work at 75-bed rehabilitation hospital. Followed and observed occupational therapists conducting work with brain injured, cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic, stroke recovering and wound care patients. Attended patient conference meetings as well as treatment sessions covering Cognitive Awareness and Lunch Club Feeding Session. Documented findings for class report Edward P. Boland Elementary School, Springfield, MA Field Work Fall, 2013 Completed 16 hours of field work in a 25-student kindergarten classroom. Attended and participated in academic and non- academic activities with students within the school environment, and implemented frames of reference including; Sensory Integration and Model of Human Occupation. Observed teachers and students interaction with each other in the classroom. Documented findings for class reports. Center for Human Development, Springfield, MA Student Project Fall, 2013 Observed and interacted with children with disabilities, between ages 6 and 16 participate in adapted dancing, for 4 hours. Examined child social interaction, fine and gross motor skills and the childrens utilization of assistive technology in the activity. Documented findings for class report. Mason- Wright Retirement Community, Springfield, MA (16 hours) Spring, 2013 Completed and implemented 16 hours of planned and directed activities with peers in various leisure activities to encourage group participation of the residents at a senior community center. Incorporated frames of reference including; Psychodynamic and Model of Human Occupation. Documented findings for class report. International Hospital of Kampala, Kampala, Uganda Volunteer Summer, 2011 Observed and interacted with different health professionals attending to patients in different departments of the hospital for 80 hours. Assisted different health care professionals with patient care as required by the department including but not limited to transferring patients and educating recent mothers on where to receive the birth certificate for their child upon discharge from the hospital.
