Reflections
I feel like that my students really were engaged in all of my lessons. I was really worried
when Dr. OConnor came into to observe if my students would cooperate and thank goodness
they did. The students dont really cope to having guests in the room because they are used to a
routine. Some of my lessons I would change because I know that some of them didnt go as well
as planned. I should have used examples on the board because my students really understand
some of things we were doing.
Lesson Reflections
Lesson 1: Bullying
This lesson was totally different from all the other lessons. It was my first lesson and I
was so nervous because I didnt really know how the students would respond. The plan was for
Mrs. Burden to introduce the Bullying the day before but she didnt so I just went with it. I
started off my just asking the students questions like what is a bully. Just to see what they
already knew. It went really well the students were engaged and answered the questions with the
truth we actually got some stories that we have never heard about so Mrs. Burden was able to
handle those situations. The students really enjoyed watching the video that I had and the
worksheet went with the video so it tied it in. I might change some things if I would teach this
lesson again, I would change it where the students would come up and act out situations and
have them come up with the solutions. I would also have them make posters to hang on the wall
outside of the classroom for others to see.
Lesson 2: Math Multiplication
This was my second lesson and Mrs. Burden observed it. I feel like that it went okay. The
students really love the manipulatives and being able to do it at their own pace. I do wish that I
would have provided examples on the board and had them come up to the board to help solve it.
I did have to adjust because the one worksheet I had need more than two circles so I got little
white boards out with dry erase markers and had them draw the extra circles. I know this lesson
wasnt a great lesson but I would definitely change it if I teach it again.
Lesson 3: ELA: Subjects and Predicates
This lesson was probably one of the best lessons that I wrote and implemented because I
took the most time preparing for this one because Dr. OConnor was coming to supervise this
lesson. I did mess up my worksheets and put verbs and nouns instead of subjects and predicates.
I would make sure when we made the sentences that my students would circle the predicate and
underline the subjects so that they knew what exactly what a subject and predicate were. I feel
like this lesson went really good and the only thing I would change was the underlining and the
circling. I would also make sure that the directions are clear and each student completely
understood what was going.
Lesson 4: Math Co-Teach Multiplication
I thought this lesson went okay I didnt of course get to see Mr. Malachi teach but what I
heard he did a fabulous job. In my lesson plan I just was very basic about what I really wanted to
do with this lesson because I still wasnt exactly sure what to do. I decided during the lesson that
my students would have a better understanding if they actually got to do it on the board and since
each group had like 3 or 4 students we were able to get everyone up to the board. If a student
didnt come up then I had them tell me where to mark. The one thing that I did change was
instead of having one worksheet and they had to choose a strategy I had a worksheet for each
group and they did it before switching groups.
Lesson 5: Social Studies: National Holidays
This was my last lesson and I used this lesson for my showcase lesson because the students truly
responded to really well. I had three different aspects of it one was a presentation, a game, and a
worksheet. This allowed the students to get the full understanding of the material. During the
presentation I would pause and allow the students to answer basic questions about each slide.
This lesson was also videoed partially through because my lesson was so long. In my lesson plan
I stated that I was going to do a worksheet then the game but I got to thinking that it would be
better if I just did the game first and then they could leave the game out and use it for the
worksheets. This was actually a great idea because students really loved being able to search for
the answers instead of guessing because I think they werent paying attention to the presentation.
Professional Development
Two professional development goals I need to work on are lesson plan writing and assessments. I
know for a fact that I struggle with both because Im not clear on what assessments I planned to
do and I also dont give enough detail for lesson plans. One step is to write a rough draft of my
lessons on paper then critique them. I will then have my supervisor look at them at least one
week before I teach to see what needs to be fixed. Another step is to provide differentiated
assessments to assess learners. I will use interactive worksheets, RAFTs, and anchor board tasks.
This will help my students do what they chose would be best for them.
