Fourth Grade Rocks

Week of January 12 , 2015

Reading
This week in reading we
will finish up our unit on
point of view and begin
our unit on summarizing/
synthesizing. This is an
important skill for all
readers. In our guided
reading groups and
independently, we are
working on comparing and
contrasting two pieces of
text. All of our book
clubs are now on their
second novel of the year!

Wri+ng
This week we are beginning our
unit on informative writing.
This unit will focus on
something that the kids are an
expert on. We will then
brainstorm how to break that
topic up into main ideas and
details. Focusing on using
smooth transitions and more
formal language as we are
writing will be a key focus.

Math

Social Studies

This week we are

beginning our unit on
decimals. We will be
focusing on important
vocabulary, taking a
pretest, and
identifying both tenths
and hundredths this
week.

We will be finishing our

study of immigration. We
will be finishing our
suitcases this week and
preparing for our Heritage
Museum on January 14
from 9:15-10:00. Hope to
see you there!
In Science, the students
continue to work on simple
machines.
