BIOGRAPHY OF JUAN DIEGO FLOREZ

Juan Diego Florez is a peruvian lyric tenor. He was born in 1973 in Lima
Peru. His father is Ruben Flores Pinedo, a singer and guitarist of peruvian
folk music, and his mother is Maria Teresa Salom.
He began singing covers and as a substitute for other singers. In 1990,
thanks to the support of his music teacher, Genaro Chumpitaz, he entered
to the National Conservatory of Music an also he formed part of the National
Choir of Peru.
After some years he moved to the USA to study song at the Curtis Institute
in Philadelphia. In 1996, he was hired to sing Ricciardo e Zoraide where
his performance was masterful and immediately caught the attention of
critics. Afther that, he was invited to perform at the Theatre Scala of Milan,
the Royal Opera House in London, Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan
Opera House in New York.
In 2000, he received the Abbiati Award as the best singer of the year and
also hes won numerous awards in subsequent years. Since 2001 hes
released four CDs under the Decca label, with solo recitals. Since 2003 the
great lyric tenors Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo have expressed
their admiration for Juan Diego Flores as the best light tenor.
On April 5, 2008 he married Julia Trappe in the Cathedral of Lima in Peru. A
year later, his first son Leandro was born in New York.
