This years Iditaread starts today! Encourage your child to read and turn in his/her
reading slips so that our team will make it to Nome! Every 20 min. block of time helps!
On Friday, March 13 at 4:30, our school will be hosting a benefit spaghetti supper to help
a family from our school community. Please come if you can. A free movie night will take
place immediately afterwards!
Our school is participating in the Bikes for Books contest. Please encourage your child to
read, so he/she can earn entries towards the drawing of a free bike!
Do not hesitate to contact us with comments or questions. You can call the school
(778-3529), send in a note, or e-mail us (kmartin@mtbluersd.org or

Math: The plan is to complete our module 3 unit about place value and number sense by
Friday. We will review comparing numbers using the symbols: < > and =. We will also
practice adding and subtracting 1, 10, and 100 from any number. The other objective that we
will learn about will be counting forward and backward by 1s, 10s, or 100s from any number
within 1,000. This is a great skill that could be practiced at home!
Spelling: This weeks focus is on words with ir, er, and ur patterns and one commonly
misspelled word. Please remind your child to study his/her circled words.
Reading: We are continuing to respond to what we are reading. Some of the books that we
are reading and responding to are: Muggie Maggie, Stone Fox, Soupy Saturdays with the
Pain and the Great One, and Jasper and the Bully.
Writing: We received pen pal letters and are in the process of writing back to our pen pals.
We are also writing about self selected topics.
Science: We are now working on a new unit about balance and motion. We will be
conducting balance experiments to learn about the terms balance, balance point,
counterweight, and stability. Students will have to get different shaped cardboard objects to
balance.
Social Studies: None for now.
Vocabulary: Our new vocabulary words this week will be identify, assess, and emphasize.
