Road Map #2: Computation with Fractions/Introduction to Expressions

A. Multiplication and Division of Fractions __________
We are going to repeat the general structure of Road Map #1, only to discuss
fractions. We will start with multiplication and division, which tends to be
easier.

D. Introduction to Algebraic Expressions__________

Everything we have seen so far has been a numerical expression. An expression is a
group of _______________ and/or _______________ added, subtracted, multiplied,
or divided. A variable is a letter that stands for a _______________.
When you evaluate an algebraic expression, you must do the following:
a) Replace each variable in the expression with the appropriate _______________.
b) Evaluate the expression, using ______________________________.
We are just going to cover basic expressions in this road map. Next time, we will go
over more complex expressions before introducing equations.
Problem 12: Evaluate 2a + 1 if a = 7.

Problem 13: Evaluate 10 3x if x = 2.

Problem 14: Evaluate m + 8n if m = 4 and n = 2.

Problem 15: Evaluate ab a 2b if a = 5 and b = 9.
