What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional intelligence is having the mental capacity to be aware of, control and express ones emotions. It also means to handle interpersonal relationships (relationships with others) judiciously and empathetically.
Why is having Emotional
Intelligence so important? Having
emotional intelligence means
that we have the knowledge to understand and sense how other people feel. This can also help us to sympathize with other people. Emotional intelligence also gives us the ability to take other people feelings and analyze them so that we know how to act in a certain situation.
Why is having Emotional
Intelligence Important? In
a stressful situation, emotional
intelligence is what helps us to react in the most appropriate way. When someone has an average amount of emotional intelligence they are more likely to react in an effective and productive way during a stressful or emotional situation.
Who came up with the idea of
emotional intelligence? Emotional intelligence was not discovered by one single professional but by several that studied it in different ways; coming up with different perspectives and conclusions. Some of these include:
Peter Salovey and John Mayer: Came up with the
ability model which focuses on the ability to process emotional information and use it to navigate the social environment.
Who came up with the idea of

Vasily Petrides developed the trait
model. This model encompasses behavioral dispositions and self perceived abilities and is measured through self report.
Daniel
Goleman brought up the mixed model,
which is a combination of the two previous ideas, this model defines emotional intelligence as an array of skills and characteristics that drive leadership performance.

confrontation. You can use your EQ to talk to that person and solve the conflict without overreacting or offending the other person.
When a friend needs advice or someone to talk to, people who
have high EQs are the kind of people to go to because they tend to be good listeners and problem solvers.
How to use emotional intelligence
in every day situations
It is important to understand yourself before you can relate to
other people. When you know yourself to understand your feelings or emotions in any situation it makes it much easier to relate to customers or other people in general.
When working with customers it is important to know how to read
their body language and understand their tone and attitude. You can use emotional intelligence to help the customer feel better about the situation. It is good to relate to them and adjust the situation so that the customer is pleased with the outcome.

the end of the test it will evaluate your
answers to the questions and give you your results and it will also give you tips to improve your emotional intelligence.
