b. How does copyright differ from patent or trademark? Discuss in a paragraph with minimum of 70 words.
The purpose of a trademark is to protect words, phrases and logos used in federally regulated commerce to
identify the source of goods and/or services. A patent does not give a right to make or use or sell an invention.
Rather, a patent provides, from a legal standpoint, the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering
for sale, or importing the patented invention for the term of the patent, which is usually 20 years from the filing date.
Now, the difference is that the purpose of a copyright is to protect works of authorship as fixed in a tangible form of
expression.
c. Based on the videos and websites that you studied, what is Fair Use (using your own words)?
Discuss in a paragraph with minimum of 70 words.
Fair use is a legal concept that allows the reproduction of copyrighted material for certain purposes without
obtaining permission and without paying a fee or royalty.
d. Describe an example of how students can appropriately apply Fair Use in school.Discuss in a paragraph with
minimum of 70 words.
The Copyright Act gives copyright holders the exclusive right to reproduce works for a limited time
period. Fair use is a limitation on this right. Fair use allows people other than the copyright owner to
copy part or, in some circumstances, all of a copyrighted work, even where the copyright holder has not
given permission or objects.
Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that has created different kinds of licenses to allow
individuals to choose which type of copyright protection best suits them and their work.
b. How does Creative Commons differ from traditional copyright? Discuss in a paragraph with minimum of 70 words.
Creative Commons licenses allow their holders to grant broad permission to others to share, remix, use
commercially, or otherwise use their work without having to ask specific authorization for each use.
Now, Traditional Copyright is any kind of functional work, artwork, or other creative content that meets
the definition of a free cultural work. A free cultural work is one which has no significant legal restrictions
on people's freedom.
