JUNIOR LIVESTOCK BREEDING CATTLE RULES

1. See Junior Division General Livestock Rules.

2. Ownership: Breeding Heifers must be owned at least 150 days prior


to the New Mexico State Fair Heifer Show Date. The heifers must be
managed under supervision of the 4-H county agent or Agricultural
Education Advisor. Heifers may be purebred or grade. Breeding Heifers
must be tagged with NMSF or VCCEXPO ear tags, to be eligible for entry.
Animals must be owned in the name of the exhibitor and certificate of
registration must be checked by the Superintendent of the department.
Heifers must have been continuously owned and personally cared for and
cannot be transferred from 4-H to FFA or vice versa or within family
during the feeding period. Bill of Sale or Proof of Ownership may be
checked by the Superintendent if requested.

3. Neck Ropes: For the safety of the animal, exhibitor, and general
public, neck ropes for heifers are mandatory while in stalls.

4. Fans: Only one fan per heifer will be allowed and ground based fans
(butt fans) will not be permitted.

5. Classification: 0 to 6 months of age

7 to 12 months of age

13 to 18 months of age

19 to 23 months of age

24 to 36 months of age (Cow/Calf entries will be


allowed)

6. Required Teeth: (check teeth or proof of age) Heifers must have their
temporary incisor or provide proof of age. All heifers will be checked by
the department Superintendent and the Official VCCEXPO Veterinarian, at
the time of classification. Their decision will be final.

7. Bedding Space: The space allotted for each heifer is a minimum of


four feet (4’0”). All fans and stands must fit inside the four foot (4’0”)
space.

8. Heifer Meeting: There will be a required meeting of all heifer


exhibitors. The date, time and location will be specified by the department
Superintendent.
9. Fitting Regulations are as follows: All glue must be removed after
time of show.

10. One Beef Heifer can be sold.
