Teaching Techniques
Model Solution: work the problem out step by step to show how to reach the correct
answer
Verbal Instructions: write out the steps of how to solve the problem with words, while
showing the solution steps along with the instruction
Error Correction: outline typical routine, rule and concept errors that can occur when
attempting to solve the problem
Four Phases of Mastery: when presenting new topic state objective of lecture, describe
procedure to solve problems, use practice problems for assessment, and finally assign
additional problems as remediation for complete mastery of topic
Logical Progression: outline previous skills (preskills) that would be necessary to master
topic, while focusing on developing more complex skills
Scope and Sequence Chart: use visuals to present overview of topic, including what
students should know, what they will be learning, and what we will taught next
