Reflective Journal Week 4

1) The students tended to forget lessons from previous weeks, even after exercises and enrichment activities. When asked, most students would remain quiet or only one or two would answer with hints. 2) Potential causes included students not revising topics outside of class, topics not relating to students' contexts, and boring or unmemorable teaching methods and techniques. 3) Proposals to address this included increasing active student participation, using formative assessment to improve understanding, making lessons more memorable through varied teaching, acknowledging individual students, using teaching aids, and providing rewards to motivate learning.

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL

WEEK 4
(21th April 25th April 2014)

Problem:
After three weeks I carried out my practicum, I found that the students tend to forget
their previous lessons even though they had been doing exercise and enrichment
activities during the teaching and learning process. When the teacher asked if they
remembered the previous lessons, they tend to keep quiet and only one or two
persons will answer after hints was given by the teacher.

Analysis:
I consider that this problem rises due to the fact that:
1. They did not do their revision on the topic which they have learned
consistently during outside the classroom.
2. The topic which they have learned are not related to their context of learning
3. The teaching and learning period appears to be boring and unmemorable for
them.
4. Teachers use the same techniques.

Proposal:
1. Increase activities that involve all students.
2. Use formative assessment at the end of the lesson to increase their

understanding on the topic.

Improve the teaching and learning sessions so that it will be more memorable.
Always mention the name of the students so that they feel appreciated.
Using teaching aids appeal to students.
Give them rewards as motivation so that they will motivated to learn.

Period:

I will be doing the exercise in formative assessment for 10 minutes before the
class ends starting from 23th April until the end of practicum.

Follow-up Actions:
I will record their marks that they achieved in a form so that I can determine
their level of achievement.

Conclusion:
The teaching and learning lesson should have a quality that gave impacts on
the students so that they can remember the teaching and learning process in the
future. Teacher needs to find a distinctive way of teaching so that the lesson would
be memorable for the students.
