Check each objective is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally
appropriate?
Teacher Performance Objectives During the lesson the teacher will:
Provide more corrective feedback by reinforcing the key points throughout the lesson.
Reinforce respect of the equipment throughout the lesson by stopping students who are
leaning on the tables and throwing the equipment around.

Special Considerations What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the
students in this class?
In the middle gym we have to watch out for the tables when we are doing the warm up
so that no one runs into them.

Intro: I will introduce myself as Mr. McKay

and we are going over the Penhold grip. I will
have a paddle in my hand and show the grip.
Does anyone have an idea of what the
Penhold grip is?? Anticipated response:
They will have no idea.
Key points of this grip: Thumb and pointer
finger on front of paddle, other three fingers
will be on back of paddle. I will have a picture
of the grip at each table in case they forget.
Key points for the shot: Short and sweet
(just try to push the ball over the next just like
the block shoot)
Key points for feet: Athletic stance about
shoulder width apart

Safety: We need to respect the equipment.

No leaning on the tables, no throwing the
paddles when we are walking with them dont
be throwing them.

14-14:30

14:30-22

Transition: The students will have 30

seconds to grab a paddle and get a group of
three with a ping pong ball on half of the
table.
Activity 1: Partner Pass
The students will get into groups of three on
half of the table and will use the penhold grip
to hit the ball with the group of three. If there
is not enough people for groups of three we
can do a group of two.

Demo: I will have two student volunteers

demonstrate how to do the activity before the
students move to the different tables. They

should be able to do this as we did it with the

activity with the regular grip.

Extend up: Try to do the grip with your other

hand.
Extend down: Practice the shot and have
your partner catch the ball then they can try
the shot and you can catch it. This can be
used until the person gets comfortable with
the skill.
Accommodation: If there is a student who
did not change or is not wanting to participate

they can count how many times in a row the

group gets and then move on to another
group and see how many they get. I will ask
the student who they saw get the highest
amount of passes back and forth.
If there is an extra student they can be on the
end of the table and the group can pass in a
triangle.
Safety: If the ball rolls away from you make
sure when you go to get it that you are not
going to get hit by somebody at another table.
Motivational Objective: I will have each
team count the number of passes they can
get in 1 minute and see how many each
group can get.
Transition: Students will jog over to a table

that I choose to get ready to see a student

demo of the next activity.
Activity 2: Relay
T
In this activity the class will be split into 3
groups. The groups will even themselves out
at their table. I will place three targets on
each side of the table and the team must hit
the target using the penhold grip. Once the
target is hit the target will be taken away. The
first group to gets it wins. I will give each
group about two minutes to warm up with
their team.
I need someone to tell me what happens to
the target when it is hit. Anticipated
Response: It gets taken off and put under the
table where no one can step on it.

Demo: I will have one of the tables demo this

and have all the students go to that table to
watch.
Safety: Students when switching sides of the
tables must go to the right just like we did last
monday so we do not run into each other.
Extend up: I will change the locations of the
targets so that it is harder for the students to
hit.
Extend down: I will move the targets to an
easier location and I can increase the size of
the targets if the team is really struggling.
Accommodation: Students can help with
removing the targets so the students playing
do not have to stop playing.
Transition: Students will find a table to play
at. There will be four people at the table to
get ready to play the game.

32-38

In this activity we will be playing a game put

we will not be keeping score in a traditional
way. I want to see how many times each
table can hit the ball back and forth without
the ball hitting twice or falling off the table.
Demo: I will have one group of students
demo the activity and once everyone sees it
they can start and I will start the music.
Checking for understanding: I will ask
Are we counting points for each team or
points for the table for number of hits in a
row? Anticipated response: number of
points for the team.
Extend up: Students can switch to their non
dominant hand but this grip will be new to
many and I expect the students not to need
this.
Extend down: Students can go back to the
partner pass to get more chances to practice
the skill.
Safety: Since there are two people at each
side make sure you call if you are going to hit
it so you dont hit each other. Also we are not
hitting the ping pong ball from the other side
of the gym to make it back on the table.
