a line shoulder to shoulder facing the teacher. The teacher will demonstrate what he wants the students to do,
which is take the ball and put it on the paddle hold it out with a straight arm and try to balance it for as long as
possible. T
- The teacher will number off students and tell the 1s to go out and find a set of equipment and wait for the SSSSSSSS
teacher to say go or the music will start to begin activity. Then the teacher will tell the 2s to go out and find their
own set of equipment along with the same instruction. SSSSSSSS
- The students will get to their hot spot with equipment on it and then the teacher will then begin the music and
the students will perform the task.
- The teacher will give extensions like use opposite hands or try to balance for “this long” to go along with the
activity. There will also be extensions down like try to bring the paddle in closer to balance.

4-5 Transition: As the music concludes or the teacher says “3,2,1 freeze” the students will place their equipment down at
min. their feet. The teacher will number the students off by 5 and have them come in small groups. The students will sit
down in 2 groups of 10 sitting right behind each other and the last group 12. T

5-9 Informing: SSSSSSSSSSS

min. - Grip Skill Cues: Lead with favorite hand, reach and give racquet a hand shake.
- Skill Cues: Ready, T, step, follow through (Nuts and Bolts pg. 42)
- Demonstration: Mr.G will demonstrate the skill cues of a sidearm strike.
- Rules: Go signal= Ready, Go or the music starts. Stop Signal= “3,2,1 freeze” or the music stops.
- Boundaries: Stay within the coned area for all activities and keep your eyes up and heads up at all times so

with the poles being up.

Accommodations/Extensions:
- As the students become better, the teacher will ask them to try and walk around while hitting the ball in the air

- If a student is doing well, the teacher will ask them to count how many they can get in a row over the tape.
- If a student is struggling, ask them to take a step forward and try striking from there.

VERBAL CUES: Ready, T, step, follow through (Nuts and Bolts pg. 42) T

Students will stand up and demonstrate the “Ready, T, Step, Follow Through.”

Cognitive: Answer the questions on the exit slip

Students will circle 3 out of the 4 correct skill cues.

time, thumb down if you did not have a good time”
Students will hold up 2 or 1 thumb, expressing that they had a great or good time during the lesson today.

(Pickleball Inc.)

Basic Overview

Pickle-ball® is played on a badminton-sized court: 20’ x 44.’ The ball is served diagonally (starting with the right-hand service-square), and points can only
be scored by the side that serves.
Players on each side must let the ball bounce once before volleys are allowed, and there is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net, to prevent
“spiking.” The server continues to serve, alternating service courts, until he or she faults. The first side scoring eleven points and leading by at least two
points wins. Pickle-ball® can be played with singles or doubles.
The Serve

Serves are to be made diagonally, starting with the right-hand service-square and alternating each serve. The serve must clear the seven-foot non-volley-
zone in front of the net and land in the diagonal service court.

Serves should always be done underhand with the paddle below the waist, and the server must keep both feet behind the back line when serving. The ball
should be hit into the air without being bounced. The serving side will continue to serve until the there is a fault on the service, at which point the service
will be given to the opposing side. (However, if the ball touches the net but still lands within the appropriate service court, the serve may be taken over.)

Volleys

To volley means to hit a ball in the air without first letting it bounce. In Pickle-ball ®, this can only be done when the player’s feet are behind the non-volley
zone line (seven feet behind the net).
Double-Bounce Rule

Each team must play their first shot off of the bounce. That is, the receiving team must let the serve bounce and the serving team must let the return of the
serve bounce before playing it. Once these two bounces have occurred, the ball can either be volleyed or played off the bounce.

Fault

A fault is committed when the ball:

 Touches any part of the non-volley zone on the serve (including the line).

 Is hit out of bounds

 Does not clear the net

 Is volleyed from the non-volley zone

 Is volleyed before a bounce has occurred on each side

Determining Serving Team

The serving team may decide who will serve first with a coin toss. The winner of the coin toss will have the option to choose whether or not to serve first.
