Philosophy of Education

My goal as an educator in the field of Earth & Space exploration, is to

expand the views my students have about the world in which they live. In
depth exploration of the many natural processes that occur in and outside
our planet will allow them to find meaning and build connections to their
everyday lives. I seek to improve their understanding about nature, geologic
processes, climate, astronomy and how humanity plays an important role.
In order to accomplish such a task, first, I need for my students to
understand that in my science classroom there are no wrong answers, only
debates waiting to take place and research to do. It is important for them to
see that they are in a safe classroom environment where the educator does
not function as an all knowing authoritative figure. On the contrary, the
educator functions as a facilitator, a mentor, and a respectful human being.
After trust is established, I want students to feel included in their learning.
Because Problem-Based Learning is a student centered pedagogy where
students collaborate with one another, develop problem-solving skills, work
on meaningful assignments, and push themselves to think critically, I look
forward to applying this form of instruction into my classroom. As
technological advancements evolve, my students need to be exposed to
technology and resources that will prepare them for life after high school.
With Problem-Based Learning, Ill be able to incorporate such resources and
technologies into lessons and projects. Fostering critical thinkers and
knowledgeable adults can only benefit society in the long run.

My main focus is to prepare my students with the necessary skills to

achieve their potential. By carrying out my vision for the classroom and my
personal teaching philosophy I intend to cater to the learning styles of my
students and help them find the confidence to say that they are prepared to
face their future.
