Name of Student: Anood AlShehhi

(H00249845)

Course: BEd

Year: 4/3

Name of School: Shikah Mahra Bint Ahmed

Mentoring College Teacher: Mr. Mark Eckersley
Date and Time: Wednesday 9 March 10.55-11.45 am

Competency A Professionalism and Understanding:

The students took some time to get to the library but this was not Anoods
fault. The lesson was well planned. The lesson objectives, resources and
activities were all tailored well to the students abilities.
Category B Planning for Learning:
The lesson was planned well with a variety of activities. You broke down the
elements of the story well and planned the teaching of story elements well.
Characters, Setting, the Problem and the Solution. The planning for the
learning using the Powerpoint and the idea prompt sticks showed good
planning. The poster example helped students to understand what they
needed to do.

Category C Implementing and Managing Learning:

The initial visualization activity worked well to help the students approach the
learning objectives. The Powerpoint was used well to introduce the elements
of stories. Good visual examples were shown. Character, Setting, the Problem
and the Solution were explained and exemplified well. Good use of gestures
and actions to help students kinesthetically remember. Good to have the
students up the front presenting and acting out the story. You solicited the
answers from the students in a very productive manner. It is good that you
also reinforced writing elements like punctuation with actions as well. The
core activity of creating a gap fill story worked well. You implemented this
activity well and managed the learning well by going around to each group.
You allowed some time for reflecting at the end by presenting some student
story work from each group back to the whole class.

Category D Monitoring and Assessment of Learning:

You monitored and kept the students engaged well and monitored both
behavior and learning. You made sure that students in less engaged group
became more engaged. The use of actions helped you to monitor that
students understood the elements of stories. The key activity of writing the
gap fill story worked well and you monitored each group well.

Category E Reflection:
You reflected that this was their first time in the library for English. You
reflected that you wanted to use the Library environment as a wider learning
environment. You knew the timing was out but you readjusted the lesson
timing to get all aspects into the lesson. You saw that some students were not
engaged at the beginning of the lesson but then you engaged them.

Strengths of the Lesson:

The main strengths of this lesson were: Your lesson planning, quality of
teaching and the teaching resources, the scaffolding of the tasks and the use
of actions and kinesthetic elements to reinforce the learning.
Areas for Development:
The timing of the lesson was a little out, you need to control the timing a little
better.
Focus for next lesson:
Most students could do this activity easily. Try to differentiate the work a little
so the advanced students and the lower students have different task that
they do in the core activity.
