    VARIETY is a principle of design that is concerned with

    the combination of one or more color elements that use


    line, shape, texture, and/or pattern
    to create diversity and contrast in an interior space.

    ANALYSIS

    Autodesk is not just another software company,


    it is the world leader in architectural, design,
    and 3D software. Its office in San Francisco
    spans 71,000 square feet on three floors
    surrounding a daylight atrium.
    As expected from a building with a LEED
    Platinum Rating, there are plenty of natural
    finished surfaces. The Recycled wood ceilings,
    Polished concrete floors, and white walls
    provide the main backdrop. Neither brown nor
    grey dominate each other. They work together
    harmoniously with their analogous tints and
    shades to create the variety needed to energize
    the work environment. The lines of the wood
    panels change directions so that other then at
    the walls where they become horizontal or
    vertical, in the ceiling they are at continuously
    changing angles. Texture of the grey floor
    changes from polished concrete to carpet in the
    work or relaxed discussion spaces that require
    more quit that the corridors and common
    spaces. Autodesks own technology is utilized
    to create the geometry of the spaces. The main
    accent colors are blue and its contrast of
    orange, with the high saturations. The
    brightness of the colors are used within the
    spaces as a means to lift the moods of the
    workers and add an more visual stimuli to each
    space.

    A Place of work, unlike a


    place of rest requires
    energy. Energy that can
    come through the proper
    understanding of Variety
    in the design. Autodesks
    office has not only a good
    variety of textures and
    forms. It employs two
    color techniques in its
    design. The first is
    analogous shades of
    Browns and Greys as
    background colors; the
    second is to balance the
    highly saturated blue with
    its contrasting orange,
    also in a high saturation.
    These accents happen
    through the use of
    furniture or through
    designs made by
    Autodesk software on the
    Walls. The result is an
    energetic workplace
    where one can easily
    spend more than 8 hours
    per day.
