Gifts are a way of transferring something without compensation in order to increase love and friendship between relations. Gifts are commonly given on occasions like marriages, engagements, birthdays, Eid, and Valentine's Day, or to remove misunderstandings. While expensive gifts can be given, simpler gifts from the heart are also meaningful. Islam encourages giving gifts to take away ill feelings between people.
