My name is Humaira. I was born on the 23 rd of September 1982 in Aceh Besar, Indonesia. I have
9 Siblings, five brothers and four sisters. I am the seventh in my family. I live with my family in Banda
Aceh. They support me to continue my studies in law faculty at IIUM.
I graduated from university of Syiah Kuala in Banda Aceh on the 26 th of August 2006 with GPA
3,54. After graduating from the law faculty, I taught at faculty of social and politics as assistance lecturer
for one year at university of Syiah Kuala. Working with team was my experience because when I am a
lecturer at law faculty, I will worknwith team in teaching and doing research together with many others.
During my five years at university, my prespective on my ambition changed gradually. I did not
only study but also how I could contribute my knowledge to the community. In addition, I have to study
overseas to expand my knowledge. I believe studying overseas will increase my confidence and my
knowledge because I will meet international students and different systems of education overseas as a
result increase my critical thinking in my future work as a lecturer. I wrote my thesis about banks
responsibility for guarantee customer debtors’ securities after the tsunami.
In my opinion a lecturer has to expand their capabilities and knowledge to contribute to their
students. In this case, I have to increase my ability in legal studies, particular in master degree at IIUM.
Because the IIUM is the best university which provides Islamic banking law.
Moreover, it is important if I study International banking which includes both Islamic banking
and conventional banking. My expectation, I can expand my knowledge and I can compare Islamic and
conventional banking law system between my country and other countries which implement this
system. Also, this major is very important because the law faculty of syiah kuala university will provide
International class program. We have to expand student’s knowledge not only Indonesian law, civil law,
but also international law.
