What is Environmental art?
• These are large sculptural or spatial works that
create national surroundings which the
spectator may enter and become absorbed in.
• It incorporates sensory stimuli, such as sound
or movement, to capture the observer’s
attention.
Who are some of the Artists associated with
Environment Art?
1. Claes Oldenburg
*He is a pioneer of Pop art. He conducted bests
artworks such as Autobodys at Los Angeles 1964
which involved automobiles, crowds of people and
quantities of ice cubes in a participational art event.
*Some of his works called soft sculpture transform
familiar everyday objects into sagging heaps. They
are intended both as innovative sensual experiences
and as commentary on the social import of the
objects portrayed

Oldenburg did this by sculpting things of canvas and foam or similar materials. He used this
approach to create soft-sculpture fans, typewriters, bathroom fixtures and other items.
TROWEL
Trowel is a large metal sculpture
by Oldenburg. He is known for his
oversized sculptures of everyday
objects, many of which are
monumental in scale. This piece is
in the sculpture garden of the
Kroller-Muller Museum in
Otterloo, Netherlands.

2. Jim Dine
*An American painter, sculptor and graphic artist, he incorporated
images of everyday objects in his art. He however, tried to do
away from the coldness and impersonal nature of Pop art by
making works that fused personal passions and everyday
experiences. His repeated use of familiar and personally
significant objects, such as a robe, hands, tools and hearts, is a
signature of his art. In his early work, he created mostly
assemblages in which he attached actual objects to his painted
canvases, as in Shoes Walking on My Brain

3. Christo Javacheff
*Considered a leading example of modern
environment or land art. An American artist of
Bulgarian origin, he has worked in partnership
with his French-born wife Jeanne-Claude, sice
the 1960s. Their works transform the natural
environment and cause onlookers to observe
