your answers in not more than one sentence
Since 1900 education in Spain has greatly improved. Today. only about 3% of the people (aged 15 years and above) cannot read and write, compared with more than 60% in 1900. The present educational system is based on law adopted in 1970.
Spanish laws require all children from the ages of 6 to 13 to attend school. However, many children leave school when they reach 14, and the number of students decreases greatly at each successive year.
The educational system provides for optional pre-school education and 5 years of compulsory general basic education beginning at age 6. The government runs most primary and secondary schools. But there are also Roman Catholic schools at the Primary and secondary levels. Education is free in staterun schools, which offer a primary pogramme lasting five years and a 3-year programme of secondary education. Pupils thereafter may enter the 3-year Bachelor (BUP) programme, after which a l-year college orientation programme (COU) is required for entrance to a university. The number of public schools remains inadequate to serve the student population. About one-third of all students attend private schools, the majority of which are administered by the Catholic Church. The government has provided direct subsidies to private schools since 1970.
Higher education is structured in three cycles: the first cycle lasts 3 years, and the second and third cycles 2 years each. Major universities are located in Madrid and Barcelona, and there are regional universities in most large cities. Spain has about 30 universities. which are attended by more than 700.000 students.
Q1. Write a suitable title for the passage.
Q2. How is the higher education structured in Spain? Q3. What is the current literacy rate in Spain?
Q4. When can a student enter the 3-year Bachelor (BUP) programme?
Q5. Since when has Spanish government provided direct subsides to private schools?
