Happy New Year!
As we embark on 2011, it has

dawned on me just how special
2010 really was. We had an
incredible year with more growth
than we anticipated. Goals have
always been set very high here at
CDCF; however, this year was
something special. There were so
many selfless individuals who
contributed to an outstanding year. We
watched as Michael Vick spoke on
decision-making, laughed in the presence
of Scott Van Pelt at our annual golf
tournament, and enjoyed thousands of
smiling children during our
Christmas week celebration.
The launch of our Bow-Tie
Program was a huge success and
helped all of our students
improve their grades. We had a
great year. We look forward to
what 2011 will bring as well as
sharing many more great stories
with you, our wonderful
supporters.

The Michael Vick Event
This year’s motivational speaker was a very humbled
Michael Vick. On May 5th, Vick spoke to a crowd of
nearly 2,500 excited Lancaster County students,
business owners and families. The theme of his
speech was simple; “Every Decision Counts!” The
day included a tour of Manheim Township High
School, a private dinner for students and sponsors,
as well as an autograph signing.
4th Annual Golf Tournament

This year we saw the return of ESPN’s Scott Van
Pelt as he hosted our golf tournament at Lancaster’s
Iron Valley Golf Course. NFL receiver, Darrius
Heyward-Bey also joined us on the course. A
beautiful day on the course, followed by a
wonderful dinner where four students received
scholarships, was a great way to cap yet another
successful event.
Christmas Party
On Dec. 11th we hosted our 2nd annual Christmas
Party at Reynolds Middle School. We were able
to provide over 1,000 gifts, 2,000 meals and 3,000
articles of clothing to local families and students of
Lancaster city. We spent the afternoon enjoying
games, music and entertainment, including a visit
from Santa Clause and a live musician.
Christmas Dinner
We had a great end to an amazing year as we welcomed
friends, family and supporters to our annual Christmas
Appreciation Dinner. We enjoyed live music, great food
and some outstanding auction items. The highlight of
the evening was a speech from CDCF Bow-Tie Boy, AJ
Marty.

In 2010 we said, “Every Decision Counts!” We

certainly stood by that.
In what seemed to be a very short year, as it flew by with many events and
experiences, we are proud of the direction the foundation has gone. We embarked
on many new challenges and watched as it
flourished. The Bow-Tie Program, led by a
curriculum heavily set on literacy, character
development and mentorship, was a huge
success.
We watched one of our students, McCaskey Sophomore-
Diante Cherry, stand in awe at the Oval Office during a private
tour of the White House. We watched proudly as three of our
students entered college, and happily handed scholarships to
four students as their journey also took each of them to the
collegiate level.
During an exciting summer, we stood along side of The Arbor
Place, supporting them through the zoning
approval on new Developmental Center. We
partnered with Crispus Attucks to support
their Summer Science Academy, which gave
80 students the opportunity to further explore
their academics throughout the months of
June and July. We were also able to enjoy
several baseball games with students at the beautiful Clipper Magazine
Stadium, home of the Lancaster Barnstormers. We also had the pleasure of
spending a weekend in Maryland as 10 boys from our program enjoyed our “Boat on the Bay” trip,
which was highlighted by an afternoon on a boat and various team-building activities.
2010 also made history for CDCF. We unveiled our new headquarters in the city of
Lancaster. Many students in addition to staff, now refer to our office as “The Lab” in reference to
the research, hard work, and exploration that takes place within the walls. Each weekday evening we
see many students in “The Lab” who spend their time studying,
reading, growing and learning. It has blossomed into a place of
continued success as we have seen all of our Bow-Tie students
increase their GPA!!!
