Holography and

False Identification

By James Peachey
What is Holography?
 Process/technique of making holograms (3D
images)
 Holograms are easily recognizable and
supposedly impossible to replicate
 Used in a variety of industries, especially security
Replication of Holograms
 Two Styles of Hologram:
 Single/Double Spectrum
 Multi-Spectrum

 Three Methods of Replication

 (Single/Double Spectrum Only)
 Alps Method
 Stamp Method
 Thermal Transfer Method
Alps (Dye-Sublimation) Method
 Process:
 Extremely Complicated
 Pros:
 Brighter/Crisper Holograms
 Water and Smear Proof
 Dries Instantly
 Cons:
 Old Technology
 Expensive
 Extremely Slow
 Huge Learning Curve
Stamp Method
 Process:
 Stamp is made/purchased
 Pearl-ex Pigments are spread very thin
 Stamp dipped into Pearl-ex then firmly placed onto ID
 Pros:
 Cheap
 Easy
 Reusable
 Cons:
 Very few when used correctly
 Easy to mess up
Thermal Transfer
 Process:
 Light coat of ink printed onto transparency
 Pearl-ex Pigments dusted onto ink
 Laminate placed over top and laminated on low heat
 Pros:
 Fairly Inexpensive
 Fast
 Cons:
 Lots of Trial and Error
 Large Mess
Why is this important to you?
Fun and interesting hobby
Great Money Maker
Helps identify poorly made Fake ID’s
