A NUMBER of families were evacuated in the Co Tyrone town of Coalisland last night during a security alert. Army technical officers were called to the Maple Brook Hill area. Medals for Royal Irish

ROYAL Irish Regiment troops recently returned from Afghanistan were presented with their campaign medals by the Duke of York on Saturday. Thousands of family members, friends and wellwishers braved stormy weather to see the regiments colonel-in-chief perform the ceremony at their Ternhill base in Shropshire. Around 1,200 people looked on as more than 400 soldiers marched to the parade square. Among those present at the event was secretary of state Owen Paterson. See page 7

CELEBRATIONS erupted across Northern Ireland after local golfer Rory McIlroy pulled off one of the greatest victories in the history of the sport by becoming the youngest winner of the US Open this century. His astonishing triumph comes one year after fellow Ulster player Graeme McDowell picked up the same trophy, the first time in 90 years that two non-American players from the same country won back-to-back victories in the tournament making last nights win one of the biggest ever for Northern Ireland sport. And the biggest cheers for Rory were at Holywood Golf Club in Co Down where he learned to play. See page 3, Total Golf and Sport
