Davis gives Northern Ireland a boost before Serbia clash: SPORT
SF drivers in most crashes
MARTIN McGuinnesss Sinn Fein-employed drivers have been involved in five crashes in five years. That is more than all the other Stormont ministers drivers put together, the News Letter can reveal. In 2009 alone, his 15,000 Skoda Superb vehicle which among its safety features has electronic parking assistance and nine airbags was involved in three crashes. By contrast, first minister Peter Robinsons car has not been involved in any accidents since the restoration of devolution in 2007. Sinn Fein ministerial drivers have been involved in six crashes since 2007 while only one civil service driver has been involved in an accident during the period. The revelation raises fresh questions over why Sinn Fein are allowed to use their own drivers on official business. See page 7

Triumph turns to tragedy

Young rider loses his life just 48 hours after winning Manx race
BY PHILIP BRADFIELD
p.bradfield@newsletter.co.uk

THE family of promising Ulster motorcyclist Wayne Hamilton, who was killed while racing at the Manx Grand Prix yesterday, have paid tribute to a true gentlemen and sportsman. The 20-year-old Portadown man had a dream debut in the Newcomers A race on the Isle of Man on Saturday, and set the meeting alight, organisers said. He won the title on his first attempt, the race being seen as a stepping stone to the TT races. Last night his family said his star shone for only a short time, but very briefly with much success in his beloved sport. They added: His brothers and sisters Tyler, Laura, Jessica, Brian, Rachel and Emily have lost a much loved brother who was a true gentleman and sportsman. He was very much loved by his dad, mum, step-mum, grandparents

and friends and family. Waynes death comes after two other sporting tragedies on Saturday, with fellow biker Adrian McFarland losing his life in a race in the Czech Republic and Ards cricketer Peter Ritchie dying in a road crash. Ryan Farquhar, one of Northern Irelands most senior riders, said yesterday of Waynes death: I dont know what to say really. Its just so sad because he was such a young lad. He added: Its a bad time for Irish motorcycling after what happened with Adrian McFarland as well. Wayne was widely regarded as a top future racer in the making, and was holding third place in the Junior Manx Grand Prix yesterday when he crashed on his third lap, just after 2pm. Turn to page 5

Lennon tells of attack

CELTIC Football Club manager Neil Lennon told a court yesterday that an alleged religiously aggravated attack on him was the tipping point in a season that saw him being threatened with bombs and bullets. He was giving evidence at the trial of a man accused of assaulting him during a match against Hearts earlier this year. See page 4
