CAPACITOR BANK FIELD STARTUP INSTRUCTIONS AND SETTINGS

After connecting the Current Transformer to the RVT terminal block TB1, ensure that the shorting jumpers have been removed from the secondary terminals of the current transformer. (Shorting jumpers may be applied at the current transformer (CT) terminals or terminal block TB1 CT shorting screws may be installed in TB1). Turn on capacitor bank. If a key symbol appears in the upper left-hand corner of the RVT display, the RVT is locked. Set mode access is denied and Commissioning cannot be performed until the RVT is unlocked (Reference Section 6.1.1 of RVT manual) RVT Display and Input Settings: 1. Welcome menu, select Settings 2. Settings menu, select Change mode 3. Change mode menu, select Set 4. Settings menu, select Manual settings 5. Manual settings menu, select User settings 6. User settings menu, select Alarm 7. Alarm menu, select Alarm cos Input the Alarm power factor setting (Alarm cos). The alarm power factor setting represents the minimum power factor required to avoid Utility imposed penalties, or meet customer requirements. The Alarm power factor setting also establishes an alarm condition. Should the actual power factor fall below this setting, the RVT will indicate an alarm. 8. Press Esc button until the Welcome menu appears. 9. Reference section 3.0 of RVT manual. a. Welcome menu, select Settings b. Settings menu, select Change mode c. Change mode menu, select Set d. Settings menu, select Commissioning e. Commissioning menu, select Automatic f. Input the Current Transformer (CT) Scaling Example: 4000A/5A ratio CT, Scaling = 800 (4000/5) g. Initiate Automatic sequence recognition process Note: This process may take several minutes. This process has a better chance for success if the network load is constant, not varying. If this process fails, try again when the network load is not varying. h. Input target power factor, Target cos normally this setting is unity 1.00. 10. Start Automatic Power Factor Correction Operation a. Settings menu, select Change mode b. Change mode menu, select Automatic The RVT will begin turning on capacitor steps after the ON-Delay if the power factor is poor. 11. Press Esc button until Welcome menu appears. 12. View network measurements a. Welcome menu, select Measurements b. Measurements menu, select Overview
