24. THREE ANGEL’S MESSAGES

In ages past, God has revealed through the prophets, His plans, and warnings of coming destruction,
for He is “not willing that any should perish.” 2 Peter 3:9. Just so, God has given to us in these last
days, a great message of warning concerning what is coming on the world. In these prophecies, He
has revealed certain truths He wants you to know and to understand. These are revealed in the book
of Revelation.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, HE IS COMING with clouds, and every eye will see Him,
even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn
because of Him. Even so, Amen.

The keynote of the book of Revelation is the second coming of Christ. This theme runs through all
the book as a golden thread. Because of this dominant theme it has often been called, “The Book of
the Advent”, i.e. the second coming of Christ.

Revelation 22:20 He who testifies to these things says, “SURELY I AM COMING

QUICKLY.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

The very last promise of the book of Revelation concerns the coming of Christ; in fact, almost every
prophecy in Revelation has for its climax, the second coming of the Saviour.

Revelation 14:14-16 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One
like the SON OF MAN, having on His head a GOLDEN CROWN,
and in His hand a SHARP SICKLE. And another angel came out of
the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud,
“THRUST IN YOUR SICKLE AND REAP, for the time has come
for You to reap, for THE HARVEST OF THE EARTH IS RIPE.” So
He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth
was reaped.

When Jesus returns, He comes as a king (golden crown). He also comes as a judge, (sickle) to
gather His saved ones to Him. He comes as both King and
Redeemer.

In Revelation 14:6-12, John saw a vision of three mighty angels

proclaiming three very important messages to the world just
preceding the second coming of the Lord. An “angel” means
simply, “a messenger”, and in prophecy is often used to
represent a message being proclaimed in the earth. These verses
show that just prior to the Advent, three great messages are to be
sounded in the earth. These messages comprise the greatest sign
of Christ’s soon appearing. Actually, their whole purpose is to
prepare men and women for that important event. Just before His first advent, Jesus had a
messenger to go before Him with a special message. The prophecy is recorded in Malachi 3:1, and
its message was preached by John the Baptist. See Matthew 11:10,11. And so, before Jesus comes

the second time, another special message is to be proclaimed to the world – the message of the three
angels.

THE FIRST ANGEL’S MESSAGE

Revelation 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having THE
EVERLASTING GOSPEL to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to
every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.

The Everlasting Gospel: It is not something new or strange, not

something man has invented. It will preach the everlasting gospel –
the message of salvation through faith in the sacrifice of the Lord
Jesus. It will herald the glorious news that men and women are
saved by grace. Not only will it proclaim the everlasting gospel, but
it must proclaim special messages for the last days to meet last day
situations.

Revelation 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for THE HOUR
OF HIS JUDGMENT HAS COME; and WORSHIP HIM WHO MADE
HEAVEN AND EARTH, the sea and springs of water.”

The statement “has come” is very significant. It indicates arrival; not something to occur in the
future, but something that has actually taken place. Here it refers to the judgment.

Acts 24:25 Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self–control, and the JUDGMENT
TO COME, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a
convenient time I will call for you.”

Paul did not preach God’s last day message, for he spoke of “judgment to come”. In Paul’s day the
judgment was future.

The last day message will herald the fact that God’s judgment hour “has come”, or has arrived. This

last message must commence when the judgment commences. In the study of the 2,300 day
prophecy, Daniel clearly shows the judgment commenced in 1844. The last day message of the
three angels should be heard in the earth after 1844.

Also in Revelation 14:7 is a call to return to the worship of the Creator. It is interesting to note the
similarity in wording to the fourth commandment concerning God’s creatorship. (See Chart War of
Worship in Revelation: The Focal Point). When all the world is turning to the worship of the beast
power of Revelation 13, God’s last great message will belt the globe, calling men and women to
fear God and worship Him as Creator. How can we best worship the Creator? The keeping of the
Sabbath is an acknowledgment of the fact that God is the Creator. Exodus 20:8-11.

THE SECOND ANGEL’S MESSAGE

Revelation 14:8 And another angel followed, saying, “BABYLON IS FALLEN, is fallen, that
great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of
her fornication.”

What is Babylon? In the Old Testament Babylon was a nation that oppressed the people of God and
in fact had a system of worship that was a counterfeit of the worship of the true God. In Revelation,
John takes the term Babylon and uses it to describe the false
worship in the religious world, and in particular the erroneous
system of the Papacy.

Revelation 18:2-4 And he cried mightily with a loud voice,

saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is
fallen, and has become a dwelling place of
demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and
a cage for every unclean and hated bird!
For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the
kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of
the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.” And I
heard another voice from heaven saying, “COME OUT OF HER, MY
PEOPLE, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”

The same message that proclaims the fall of Babylon calls men and women to come out and to
come away from all false worship and to return to all the great truths of the Bible, truths held by
Christ and the apostles; a call back to the Bible only, as the only sure foundation of faith and
practice.

THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE

Revelation 14:9-11 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “IF ANYONE
WORSHIPS THE BEAST AND HIS IMAGE, AND RECEIVES HIS
MARK ON HIS FOREHEAD OR ON HIS HAND, HE HIMSELF SHALL
ALSO DRINK OF THE WINE OF THE WRATH OF GOD, which is poured
out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with
fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of
the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they
have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever
receives the mark of his name.”

Here is a warning against the worship of the beast and its image; also the receiving of its mark.
God’s last message will proclaim His fearful judgments on those who refuse to heed His message,
and cast in their lot with apostate religion. God calls His people
from all churches to accept the truth and forsake all false
teachings.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; HERE

ARE THOSE WHO KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF
GOD AND THE FAITH OF JESUS.

Here is the contrast between those who serve God, and those
who worship the beast power. The genuine faith in Jesus of His
followers leads to obedience to the commandments of God.

God’s last message will include the teachings of Jesus. Christians who love their Lord and have
based their faith on His teachings as outlined in the Bible will proclaim it. And it will emphasise the
commandments of God.

Thus we have the picture of God’s final call to men before the Lord Jesus Returns. An international
message, a message that is borne to “every nation, kindred, tongue and people” to prepare men and
women for the coming of Christ. It is to be sounded with a loud voice, proclaiming the everlasting
gospel, reminding men and women that the hour of God’s judgment has arrived, calling them back
to the worship of the Creator by the observance of His true Sabbath, telling of the downfall of
Babylon, the great false religious system set up by the adversary of Christ, warning men and women
against the worship of the beast, his image and his mark. And it calls out a people who will keep the
commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. This is God’s final call to mankind, His last message
to the human race.

This message is being taken to the world today, not by another church, but by a movement raised up
by God, just as surely as were Noah and John the Baptist. This message rises above sectarianism. It
transcends the barriers of denominationalism. It is God’s great warning message to help men and
women get ready to meet Jesus when He comes. Seventh-day Adventists called by God, are the
only people proclaiming this message of Revelation 14. May the Lord Jesus guide you into all truth,
and when you find it, cherish it. Buy the truth and sell it not. Proverbs 23:23.
