Dear Devotees, Im glad to reach you through Saivanery, May 2012 edition.

On behalf of Sri Balamurugan Temple, we would like to thank each and everyone who has helped us to bring our temple to this stage. We thank our past
presidents; Dr. Rajagopalan, Mr. Ganeswaran and the founder members. We
also thank all the committee members and the devotees for their kind support
and commitment for the last sixteen years.

We started from humble beginnings with few devotees, little wealth and modest support in 1996. However, we had overwhelming passion and confidence to build our temple. I am proud to say that we were
able to fulfil this dream because of our hard work, unity and guidance from Lord Murugan.

Please note that all capital works have been approved by the Kwinana town council and all works will
be carried out by the registered builder Gold West Development Pty Ltd (Reg. No: 9384). The council
approvals for the capital projects have been sent by the council directly to Gold West Development Pty
Ltd, since it is responsible for all capital works under its license. Saiva Maha Sabai of WA (Inc) (SMS)
and Gold West Development Pty Ltd have a formal written agreement in relation to the constructions of
the capital works. With Lord Murugans blessings Gold West Development Pty Ltd has agreed to be our
builder again since they had built the shrines in our temple. The builder is also currently involved in
building two other temples, and a few other projects in WA.

We wanted to build the Rajagopuram in year 2000 and in 2006, however it didnt happen.Since the
Kumbavisekam in May 2008, SMS couldnt start any capital projects. Now with the Blessing of Lord
Murugan, good things are happening, and progressing well. Since the initiation of the capital projects,
with the blessing of the Lord Murugan, we have been successful in collecting, including pledging funds
for the Rajagopuram project over $140,000, decorative columns and food serving hall over $40,000. In
addition many volunteers have worked many weekends and late evenings, enabling to save thousands
of dollars on labour and others. Please note that the present management committee has no intention
of borrowing any funds for the capital projects.

Please note five reputable builders were requested to submit quotes by SMS for the construction of the
Rajagopuram, one promised to come but did not turn up twice, another didnt give a quote even after
several reminders, three builders turned up to the site and provided the cost structure. Thereafter the
SMS evaluated the three builders and selected one on the basis of previous and current experience in
building Temples and understanding the technicality involving the different steps (5 steps) for the construction of the brickworks and the sitpangal for the Rajagopuram.
All designs and civil engineering drawings have been done by the Chartered Professional Engineer
(Membership NO: 6349) Philip W. Scott from Scott & Associates. Please note that during the construction of the foundation, steel work and the decorative columns he had visited twice to make sure all the
works have been carried out according to the design and drawing requirements. It was confirmed that
the reinforcement provided was in accordance with the design requirements and made minor corrections. Under the supervision of the builder the steel worker has rectified accordingly. The builder (Gold
West) and engineer (Philip Scott) worked closely In the course of the construction for any clarification.
The Muga Mandabam has been designed by Scott & Associates and was completed a few years ago.
2

We had a meeting with Scott & Associates beginning of this year to do the structural engineering services, and to design the entry between the temple and the Rajagopuram. We have obtained preliminary
designs and quotation for the engineering drawings. We also met another structural engineer, and we
have requested him to give us a cost and design. During the construction of the Rajagopuram process
SMS will further evaluate and finalize the entry structure between the Rajagopuram and the temple.

At present the construction of the Rajagopuram and the food serving hall are progressing well. A significant portion of the expenses for the construction of the Rajagopuram relates to the payment of Sthapathys wages. He is currently working at the site, each sitpangal will cost approximately $2,000 each,
if any devotee wants to sponsor any particular sitpangal, kindly contact me or any of our committee
members at your earliest.

As You have been well aware, the difficulty to raise funds for community projects and get volunteers
involved in the projects. However we try our very best to complete the food serving hall before the start
of the annual festival. The food serving hall is important and helpful during the winter season particularly to children and elderly. Therefore devotees are welcome and much appreciated to help us financially to complete the timber floors, electrical work and plumbing etc. for the food serving hall.
Please note that the tax year end is approaching soon and all building fund donations are 90% tax detectable.

Please note that we are overwhelmingly supporting our capital projects. However I urge all the devotees
to participate doing Archanais, Pujaas, Abishegams, Homams. These are the contributions going towards the temples day-to-day expenses. Those who like to participate in the festival kindly register
your name at the temple counter.

I kindly request you to take some time off to participate in our yearly Festival, which is celebrated for
10 days starting with the Flag Hoisting Festival on 26 May 2012. Also please note that with the blessing of Murugan this year Flag Hoisting Festival is falling on a Saturday and chariot Festival is happening on a Sunday morning. Please apply your leave on time to participate in these festivals. I look forward to see you all during this time.
If you require more information please feel free to contact me or any of our council members.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Over the last few months, the Saiva Maha Sabai committee have formed the Sri Bala Murugan Youth Wing. It is a work in progress,
with so much potential and such success in just the few months that it has been running. It is a concept that has been created by the
youth for the youth. The youth wing encourages many activities that will be catered for the younger generation to enjoy our beautiful
culture and to understand more about spirituality.
We first came together to participate in Thai Pongal on January 15th, where the youth were actively involved in selling archanai items
and snack to the gathered devotees. We have since then also actively helped in organizing Thai Poosum and making that day one to
remember for all who came. The Youth Wing hopes to be more involved regarding festivals in the temple and have a few cultural
events of our own, to show everyone the incredible talent we have within our community.
Our current project is Sanathana Vahini weekly enlightening spiritual workshops, due to start very soon, run every Sunday morning
at 11.00-12.30pm at the Willetton Senior High School. The classes will be catered for any youth member who is interested in learning more about the Spirituality. The classes will be organized into various stages for different age groups. We aim to enlighten our
younger generation to become amazing young adults in the future. If you are interested in these classes for your children or for yourselves, please contact one of the people on the flyer, which is attached.

A project run by the Sri Bala Murugan Youth Wing, is an online library consisting of 14000 to date. The library is run by staff in Sri
Lanka who spend their time scanning as many books as possible onto the internet for everyone to read and to enjoy the books that
have once been read, but may have been forgotten, or in the younger generations case, have never been read at all. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more in the comfort of your own home. The library is currently being funded by the Youth Wing and any donations of $10 a month would be greatly appreciated. Please see one of the SMS committee members if you are interested in learning

Karthik flew around the world stopping at all temples and

astonishment, he found Ganesh at every major stop. Karthik
was puzzled. How did Ganesh manage to be so fast?
The reason was the razor-sharp intelligence and the great
wisdom of Ganesh. Back in Kailash, Ganesh remembered
that his parents Shiva and Parvathi represented the entire
universe. Without delay, the young elephant-headed god
walked around his parents with great devotion, folding his
hands.
"Why are you circling us Ganesh?" asked Lord Shiva.
"I'm your son and to me, you two make up my whole world.

Were very pleased to bring this edition of Saivaneri to your door steps, slightly delayed
than anticipated, though complete with the help of a few devoted members.
This issue comes to you with features of interest in the context of Saivam values and heritage. Some useful information on Saiva tradition, values and practices.
Hindu culture and practices of temple worship have existed thousands of years due to the
sustained efforts and teaching of our religious faith by our forefathers without any rapprochement. Rapprochement could lead to dilution and eventual extinction of its true
form. Our responsibilities and sense of duty continues in the form of sustaining our religious beliefs and practices in the intended form. Teaching our children and grand children
the true meaning and purpose of our religious beliefs and practices with reasons and references could do this. This is Saivaneris objective, we are very determined to bring all the
jewels of Saivam to many future generations via Saivanery.
To full fill our task ,we greatly appreciate your valuable contributions, by providing any
articles , stories or publishable materials which you would like to share with others. Also,
we urge you to place your business advertisements here on Savanery, which will greatly
help us to cover the printing and posting cost of this magazine.
Please write your comments on any contents of this magazine and we are open to any suggestions that may improve the quality of Saivanery.
With Respect
The Editor
