Greyhound ablaze

On Saturday at noon, Merritt RCMP

responded to a vehicle fire 50kms east of
town on Hwy 97C. A Greyhound bus tow-
ing an empty trailer had been travelling
eastbound from Vancouver, and as it
climbed towards the Pennask Summit, the
engine experienced trouble and caught
fire. Passengers alerted the driver, and all
21 were able to get out of the bus, along
with their belongings, before it was fully
engulfed in flames. One westbound lane
was closed while the bus was removed.
Police called for a crew from the Mer-
ritt fire zone to be dispatched to the
scene to ensure that the fire didn't spread
into forested areas. The cause of the fire
remains under investigation.
