Per Holmberg, Head of Wine at Christies New York, commented: Todays two-session sale was a fitting coda to an exuberant week of auctions here at Christies New York. Prices for Burgundys top wines continued their upward trend, with Jayer and Leroy among the stand-outs. Our top lot of the day was a 3-magnum case of 1990 La Tche, which fetched $36,300, ranking it among the top prices yet achieved for this exceptional wine this year. For our afternoon session, we were honored to host the first of two sale sessions devoted to wines from the award-winning cellar of Charlie Trotters, the legendary Chicago restaurant. As anticipated, wine collectors from around the world convened to compete for this cellars trove of wine gems, pushing the session total to $918,027, well beyond its pre-sale estimates. A second online-only sale devoted to Chef Trotters cellar opens for bidding next Tuesday, November 20. Chef Charlie Trotter commented: "Seeing some of the rare gems from my cellar at auction today felt a bit like parting with old friends at times, but it was gratifying to see so much collector interest and demand from around the world. Ive taken great pride in selecting and caring for these wines over the years, and I am confident their next owners will enjoy them just as much as I have. My thanks go to Christies wine team for shepherding this special collection to market and achieving such a positive result today.
